I became a personal trainer a few years ago when I started to become disillusioned with my graduate desk job - it was just the wrong kind of treadmill. I'd always loved fitness but with long hours at the office and then trying to fit in some kind of social life I ended up using lots of the excuses listed on this site for not attending the gym as often as I'd wanted. So when the opportunity arose I left the world of marketing and spreadsheets for a career in fitness… and what a great lifestyle it's proved to be!

I began my career at Virgin Active. It gave me an excellent and solid grounding in gym management and experience of training in both a group and individual basis. One of the things that really became clear was that there are an awful lot of people out there who really want to improve their health and fitness levels but they just can't summon up the personal motivation to get on and take advantage of what's on offer. Believe me I understand that but there is a solution.

Using a personal trainer to create a programme that suits an individual’s needs, aspirations and time constraints is by far the most effective way to making real progress. All my learning and coursework thereafter has been geared towards helping people achieve their lifestyle goals within their own timeframe - the results can be inspirational and life changing.

Health Assessment

My goal when I work with a client is to provide the keys to enable real positive change. We start with a full health check - a body MOT if you like. I'll provide you with a report which (depending on your specific needs), includes non invasive assessments to determine your body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, heart rate, basal metabolic rate, flexibility, VO2 max and much more. Some people find the methods traditionally used to measure areas, such as skin fold or body circumference, embarrassing and uncomfortable so I use the Tanita Body Composition Scales which calculate all this information just by you standing on the scales.

Once we have the results I will produce a profile that is specific to you. This is the springboard. It gives us the fundamental information about you and your body dimensions, which forms the start point and benchmark against which we can monitor your progress. Using this system it's non-invasive, it's simple, there's no such thing as a pass or fail and it’s targeted specifically at you and your goals!

As we progress through your programme I'll take you through regular health assessments so that we can review your progress to make sure you're still on track. All feedback is shown in a way that works best for you. Some clients prefer results shown graphically, others in standard print. We will discuss this and find what works best for you.

Mobile Fitness

If you have the space, indoors or out, then I have the means and equipment for you to exercise in the comfort and convenience of your own home. If you don’t have the space, then we can take it outside and get some fresh air at the same time. Whatever your needs, be it fat loss, toning, training for a particular challenge (or wedding!), improved fitness, or just that feel good factor we all get from a good work out, then I can help you reach your goals! In addition to the knowledge and ideas gained from being a personal trainer, I can also draw on my qualifications as an aerobics, Pilates and Kick Fitness instructor, ensuring your program never gets boring or tedious, revitalising it at regular intervals.

Nutrition

Changing anything in life is never easy - least of all your dietary and lifestyle habits! It is, however, vital if you are going to reach peak condition and peak health. If you were putting poor quality petrol into your car, would you expect it to run effectively? It’s the same for our bodies - you get out what you put in. Therefore diet and nutrition is the cornerstone of optimal physical and mental functioning. Dietary changes become increasingly important when managing chronic health problems, when aiming to reach an ideal weight or body composition, or when wanting to find vibrant energy.

As a nutrition and weight management adviser I will require an initial face-to-face meeting to ascertain your health, performance and nutritional goals, as well as gather any other relevant details. You will then be required to keep an activity and diet journal, for which I will provide templates. A second session is used to discuss your diaries, establish your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and total energy expenditure, healthy and sustainable fat loss goals and create dietary and menu plans. We will then be in regular contact to help you stay on track and meet your fat loss goals!

Diet and nutrition, however, isn’t just about fat loss. If you are happy with your weight but feel as though you’re constantly tired and lacking in energy or would just like to be educated on some of the pitfalls in which we all find ourselves in this world of convenience and processed foods, then I can help you too!
